The hosts encounter

- Buen camino peregrino!
-Ah!... Hello! ...Do you want an orange? Those at the store sold me two for the price of one.
-No, thanks. What I would need to get to Santiago with so much rain are glasses with windshield wipers.
-And after Santiago?
-Well, I will continue to Finisterre.
-And after Finisterre?
-Well, I'll jump into the ocean and move on.

From that first meeting, both pilgrims, Maribel and Carles, set out in life together and agreed to give back to the Camino everything it had offered us. We illuminated The Jumping Forest project, a pilgrim hostel in a food forest. An ecological project where you connect with nature. Weaving networks from within ourselves with the environment.

El encuentro entre anfitriones

-¡Buen camino peregrino!
-¡Ah!... ¡Hola! ... ¿Quieres una naranja? Los de la tienda por el precio de una me han vendido dos.
-No, gracias. Lo que a mí me haría falta para llegar a Santiago con tanta lluvia son unas gafas con limpiaparabrisas.
-¿Y después de Santiago?
-Pues seguiré hasta Finisterre.
-¿Y después de Finisterre?
-Pues me lanzaré al océano y seguiré adelante.

Desde ese primer encuentro ambos peregrinos, Maribel y Carles, encaminamos la vida juntos y acordamos devolver al Camino todo lo que éste nos había ofrecido. Alumbramos el proyecto The Jumping Forest, un albergue de peregrinos en un bosque de alimentos. Un proyecto ecológico donde conectarse con la naturaleza. Tejer redes desde nuestro interior con el medio ambiente.

 First jumps

At first, the project was elusive to us. We spent a few years living in England and after listening to the call of our hearts we returned to look for our place on the Camino and one day, along the endless stretch from Astorga to Rabanal, we came across a dog standing in the middle of the route scratching the flea it probably didn't have. Intimidated by the imposing presence of the Leonese mastiff we stopped. Suddenly, two donkeys escaped through the door of an adjacent fence, pursued by the hurried shepherd. The mastiff looked at the walkers, then at the donkeys, then at Felipe the shepherd, scratched the flea that he undoubtedly did not have, sighed, and chose to shepherd the pilgrims: standing still here, you have found your place on the Camino.

That same night we stayed at The Stone Boat and met Kim. Protected from complicity, she became our guardian angel on the Camino.

Primeros saltos

A principio el proyecto nos era esquivo. Pasamos unos años viviendo en Inglaterra y tras escuchar el llamado de nuestro corazón volvimos a buscar nuestro lugar en el Camino y un día, por la interminable recta de Astorga a Rabanal nos topamos con un perro apalancado en medio de la ruta rascándose la pulga que probablemente no tenía. Intimidados por la imponente presencia del mastín leonés nos detuvimos. Súbitamente, por la puerta de una verja conlindante escaparon dos burros perseguidos por el apurado pastor. El mastín miró a los caminantes, luego a los burros, luego a Felipe el pastor, se rascó la pulga que sin duda no tenía, suspiró, y eligió pastorear a los peregrinos: quietos aquí, habéis encontrado vuestro lugar en el Camino.

Esa misma noche nos alojamos en The Stone Boat y conocimos a Kim. Al abrigo de la complicidad, ella se convirtió en nuestro ángel de la guarda en el Camino.

Learning to jump: Albergue Ecológico el Beso

Thanks to the warning of our guardian angel, in 2022 we rent for a season one of the most unique hostels on the Camino, El Beso, an old rural house renovated and planted in a magical valley at the exit of Triacastela towards Sarria along the San Xil route. The rustic lodge is surrounded by a forest of centuries-old chestnut trees guarded by the hoot of the owl at night. In the afternoons, pilgrims contemplate peace and rest stretched out in hammocks hanging from trunks and branches that stretch up to 800 years old, waiting to share a community dinner with strictly vegan and organic food with other pilgrims, laughing and singing for dessert, until the owl dictates bedtime. We keep in our hearts the encounters and deep connection with so many pilgrims who came from all corners of the world, and also the friendship of illustrious neighbors in the village of A Balsa, such as the artist and philanthropist Arthur Manton, whose art gallery and blessing no pilgrim should miss.

Aprendiendo a saltar: Albergue Ecológico el Beso

Gracias al aviso de nuestro ángel de la guarda, en el 2022 alquilamos por una temporada unos de los albergues más singulares del Camino, el Beso, una vieja casa rural reformada y plantada en un mágico valle a la salida de Triacastela dirección a Sarria por la ruta de San Xil. Envuelve al rústico albergue un bosque de castaños centenarios que de noche el ulular de la lechuza guarda. Por las tardes, los peregrinos contemplan la paz y el reposo estirados en hamacas colgadas de troncos y ramas que se alargan hasta los 800 años, a la espera de compartir una cena comunitaria con alimentos estrictamente veganos y ecológicos con otros peregrinos, de postre risas y cantos, hasta que la lechuza dicte la hora de acostarse. Guardamos en nuestro corazón los encuentros y la profunda conexión con tantos peregrinos llegados de todos los rincones del mundo, y también la amistad de ilustres vecinos en la aldea A Balsa, como el artista y filántropo Arthur Manton, cuya galería de Arte y bendición ningún peregrino debería perderse.

Jump far away: Digital Nomads

After the experience at El Beso we decided to embark on a year-and-a-half trip through Southeast Asia, India, and Oceania, a mix of discovery and letting go so that inspiration happens. What did we live on? Apart from online work, we also live by stealing. You cannot imagine the number of thefts perpetrated on a large scale. I confess that we have stolen the joy of Filipino children when they leave school, the severe look of the gypsies of the Andaman Sea. Yoga, all the colors and garam masala of India, the calm of a village in Laos, the persevering Vietnamese wit. The starry skies of Indonesia, the enchanted seas of Papua, and the healthy breezes of Samoa. The respect for the nature of the New Zealanders, the adventurous spirit of the Australians, the dignity and pain of their traditional people, a few flies and a few bites. From Nepal, we brought the garlic soups at the foot of the Annapurnas and, this time without stealing it, the Tibetan bowls whose vibrant sound makes you feel transported wherever you choose.

Saltar bien lejos: Nómadas Digitales

Después de la experiencia en el Beso decidimos emprender un viaje de año y medio por el Sudeste Asiático, India, y Oceanía, una mezcla de descubrimiento, y dejar irse para que la inspiracion ocurra. ¿De qué vivíamos? Aparte del trabajo online, vivimos también pues de robar. No os podéis imaginar la de hurtos perpetrados y a gran escala. Confieso que hemos robado la alegría de los niños filipinos al salir de la escuela, la mirada severa del los gitanos del Mar de Andamán, el yoga, todos los colores y el garam masala de la India, el sosiego de una aldea en Laos, el perseverante ingenio vietnamita. Los cielos estrellados de Indonesia, los mares encantados de Papúa, las saludables brisas de Samoa. El respeto a la naturaleza de los neocelandeses, el espíritu aventurero de los australianos, la dignidad y el dolor de sus pueblos tradicionales, algunas moscas y alguna picadura. Del Nepal nos trajimos las sopas de ajo al pie de los Annapurnas y, esta vez sin robarlo, los cuencos tibetanos a cuyo vibrante son te sientes transportado a donde elijas.

Jump to the root: The Pilgrim Stone

When Kim set out in new directions, we acquired her guesthouse and laid the foundation stones for The Jumping Forest. Kim set off with the name The Stone Boat on her backpack and we placed The Pilgrim Stone, Vegan Bed & Breakfast. And we also debuted the Interior Forest, the space dedicated to the Stone Ritual. Cuando Kim emprendió nuevos rumbos, adquirimos su casa de huépedes y colocamos las primeras piedras de The Jumping Forest. Kim partió con el nombre de The Stone Boat en su mochila y nosotros establecimos The Pilgrim Stone, Vegan Bed & Breakfast.
